“Deserts unclutter the soul.”
Alicia Britt Chole 40 Days of Decrease
I was recently in the desert for an art retreat called The Creative Nomad.
I came home with inspiration, some new techniques and a list of lessons from the desert. Roxanne Coble and Brian Kasstle were wonderful instructors. I haven’t put down the white pens or the black gesso since I got home.
This trip was a perfect transition into the Lenten season with it’s focus on 40 day fasts in the desert and sacrifice and decrease. It all seems so dreary and intense. But like the desert, this season is deceptive; it seems barren and dry, and is actually teeming with life.
I love the desert. It clarifies my vision and shakes things down to the bones.
I chose this Lenten devotional this year.
I had already purposed to participate in the #40bagsin40days challenge at White House Black Shutters, so I combined the two. It’s a good pairing. The pull to simplify has been strong and I love when what is happening in my spiritual life is in alignment with what is manifesting in the physical realm.
And I love that the devotional focuses on softening our heart so that it may be open.
I leave you today with offerings from my faith practice:
May you enjoy rich insights when you shake things down to the bones. As you enter desert places may you hunger and thirst for communion and connections. May you know life and thriving in the desert.
Be in your life,
